Citizen Scientists -- non-scientist volunteers -- play a critical role in fulfilling the core mission of the Brewster Ponds Coalition (BPC). This all-volunteer program, which began in 2017, is comprised of members who care passionately about the environment and our community.
The BPC Citizen Science team is comprised of individuals of all ages and walks of life (primarily non-scientific) who are assigned a pond where they gather water samples bi-weekly. Once gathered, the team shares the samples with our research partners, the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) and the University of New Hampshire (UNH), who then analyze the samples for the presence of toxic cyanobacteria.
