Cyanobacteria Advisory For Seymour Pond

​On Friday July 16, a Cyanobacteria Advisory has been posted by the Seymour Pond neighborhood associations at prominent landings due to elevated levels of cyanobacteria in the water. The blooms were sighted by neighbors, samples were taken, and laboratory results verified the high levels. 

At this time the water is unsafe for children and pets.  Adults should use caution and avoid water contact if they see a visible algal bloom or mat.

​Until further notice:

• small children should avoid contact with the water 
• keep all pets away from the water
• for all, do not get ingest or get pond water in your mouth 

The Brewster Ponds Coalition and the Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod continue to monitor freshwater ponds in Brewster to provide timely notification to our residents of potentially harmful algal blooms. 

Additional testing at Seymour Pond is scheduled over the next two weeks. The BPC will report back when the pond is to be reopened. 

Call your doctor or veterinarian if you or your animals have a sudden or unexplained sickness or signs of poisoning.
