Member Breakfast Recap

Over 50 Brewster Pond Coalition members and friends attended Saturday, March 4th's Member Breakfast celebration. Everyone mingled and enjoyed a hot frittata breakfast.

One important theme emerged from the breakfast: Working Together to Preserve our Ponds. Brewster Ponds Coalition President, Tom Vautin described our ongoing activities--the Pond Kit development, our talks and recreational programs, our advocacy--just to name a few, and how they present all sorts of fun and interesting opportunities for everyone to get involved. He invited everyone to talk with board members about the volunteer opportunities in these four areas, described at several sign-up tables: 

• Protection--Gather research to better protect our ponds: Observe the storm run-off drains, join the PALS program, become a citizens pond scientist, document the Walkers Pond restoration project. 
• Communication--Get the word out about Brewster's beautiful ponds and our efforts to preserve them: Photograph ponds, write stories for our publications and blog, video events, redesign our web site, help with PR activities.
• Education--Explain how we can protect our ponds: Build and assemble our school pond education kits, become a pond docent at our outdoor events. 
• Events--Help us run our events: Plan and run our education and recreational events, join the Beautify Brewster clean up team. 

Many responded and volunteered for an activity. Board members will contact volunteers soon about their activity's next steps. 

Our breakfast was just our initial volunteer outreach. You can volunteer anytime you want; and some opportunities can be done whenever you like on your computer--whether you're on and off Cape!
